For anyone wondering who is behind Eve Cork, I thought I would share a bit about my story.

I have always loved animals and never felt good about eating meat.  I started thinking about where food, and other products found in stores, come from.  I searched for leather alternatives but had difficulty finding something I felt good about.  I was thrilled to find a pair of vegan boots but then found them to make a strange squeaking sound when I walked.  I tried to find a nice vegan handbag but they all seemed to have a strong chemical smell.  Then it happened, I discovered Eve Cork bags.  I fell in love with the material immediately.  The cork fabric is soft, lightweight and durable.

These bags check all the boxes: no animal products or harsh chemicals are used, the materials are sustainable and ecologically harvested and the beautiful hand-crafted designs are fairly traded. Eve Cork is cruelty-free from start to finish, and PETA approved, but I wanted to see for myself what was involved in the production of these gorgeous bags.  I bought a ticket to Portugal to meet with the supplier to make sure I was taking on a truly sustainable and fair product that I would be proud to represent.

I was happy to discover that the bark of the cork oak trees used to make Eve Cork products is harvested with care every 9-10 years, which helps the tree to grow and live longer.  As the trees grow and go through harvest, they filter more carbon dioxide than if left untouched, resulting in cleaner air for everyone.

As a mother, I am teaching my children to think about where the things we buy come from.  Every time we make a purchase we are supporting an industry.  I think it is important to support those we feel good about.

Eve Cork bags are made in Portugal where the majority of the world’s cork comes from.  The workers are paid a fair wage to harvest the bark and create the beautiful bags by hand.   We bring them to North America to make them available to other like-minded consumers who want high-end options.

As an animal lover, I always look for cruelty-free products and shop with an ecological conscience.  Eve Cork is something I feel passionate about and hope you love the products as much as I do.
